Must admit I'm watching "The Quiet Man". I love this movie.
Typically it's shown on St. Patrick's Day, but it's Maureen O'Hara's birthday so they're showing her movies on TCM.
Prior to the advent of TCM and AMC, to catch this movie on regular television was an occasion where everyone gathered around and watched the movie.
We've watched it so much we can quote lines - hence the line above. As John Wayne comes out of church, dips his cupped hand in the Holy Water font, scoops up some water and offers to a surprised and shy (?) Maureen O'Hara, then she quickly walks away. Coming back to the carriage, as Barry Fitzgerald tells him to forget the girl, and chastises him, asking "And who's been teaching you to play patty fingers in the Holy Water?"
Love it.
Plus the fact that it was actually shot on location in Ireland makes it even better.
So, what are some of your Ireland films?
Til next time
Gigi
